The 2020 global pandemic has changed the ecosystem for which wineries operate significantly. At Bella, we are adapting, being creative and “doubling down” on healthy and safe ways to proceed forward, and through, to the new reality the pandemic presents. As such, we have a new way of welcoming people to the farm; please read on about provincial guidance, our farm tours and a general store.
Effective May 19th, winery tasting rooms are governed by a new provincial order that has no expiration date. Our key take-aways from the order are:
- a guest must be able to maintain at least two metres from another guest, unless they are in the same party (maximum 6 people per party), and from our staff;
- we will retain contact information for one guest of your party for 30 days in the event there is a need for contact tracing on the part of the medical officer.
Given these parameters, and the new ecosystem we find ourselves in, we’ve created an experience for the future: one that puts more emphasize on “why” we do the things we do. Why we farm the way we do, make wine the way we do, and why we’re so committed to supporting local, transparency and education.
Starting June 20th, we will offer tours of the homestead, by appointment only, on the hour. Walk our farm to better understand our biodiversity and way of life. This will be a 30-45 minute walking tour of the vineyards and farm property, with several stops throughout the tour to sip and savour our sparkling wines and connect with our world. Expect to see our animals, gardens, fruit trees and vineyards while sipping world class sparkling wines. Please dress appropriately for inclement weather and consider proper footwear for tramping around a farm.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted in an open air space in front of our tasting room door, safely distanced two meters from other parties, and encouraged to participate in a “smudging”. Burning sage, also known as smudging, is an ancient cleansing ritual. We will be burning some local wild sage, found on our property, which has anti-microbial properties which means it keeps infectious bacteria, viruses and fungi at bay. This act will be an acknowledgement of the current pandemic conditions we all exist within.
As we are one of very few sparkling wine houses in North America, we thought it appropriate to offer a very eclectic collection of antique coupes and flutes for you to enjoy your tasting experience in. We will place them out for you and toast the days events.
We’ll then begin the tour of the homestead and conclude in front of our general store for which you can purchase wines. At all times your household group will be kept at safe distances to protect your overall health. Our homestead is only four acres so you won’t be walking for lengthy distances.
We are accepting appointments Saturdays and Sundays, from 11AM to 4PM, via our online booking application. We have chosen to cap our hourly tours to six people and the application will capture the appropriate contact detail required by the Health Officer. Larger groups will need to contact us for availability. Please note the tour fee is $15 per person, paid in advance, and is non-refundable. The tour fee will be waived at purchase for Wine Club members and industry.
Due to the nature of the tour, we cannot allow pets (city pets and farm animals don’t necessarily get along). Should it be raining too hard, we can conduct the tasting inside. Please arrive ten minutes in advance of your booking we will meet you at your car and go from there. Further details will be included in your booking confirmation.
If you’re in the neighbourhood, and not into walking around the farm, please ORDER ONLINE and select “pick up” and we will make sure to pack your order and schedule a pick up time throughout the week. Starting on June 20th, on Saturdays and Sundays, our general store will be open 11:30am to 4:30pm to purchase wine only (no pre-order required). Please follow the signs on the property to our general store.
