One of North America’s few sparkling wine houses, Bella is a family run, community minded, winery, farm, homestead and gathering place.  We don’t believe in monocultures.  We believe in ecosystems.  We don’t believe in faceless, nameless tasks.  We believe in passionate people working together to achieve something extraordinary … and we’re looking to expand our team.  

As a small operation, we’re “all hands on deck” for most tasks but for clarity we’ve tried to outline roughly what we’re looking for in each role.  Please read on for what is currently available.

farm assistant

Our vision is create a farm that can not only sustain itself with no external inputs, but produce the highest quality products without the use of chemicals that may do harm to the environment or ourselves.  We would like to bring a diversity of plants and animals, to the vineyard and gardens, to create the best balance and quality in what we grow and raise. The person we are looking for not only embraces this way, but has the ability to expand and educate on it.

We would like to create a property that can provide food for all its staff as well as grow and raise enough food items that we can also retail.  We are aiming for a property that can maximize growth of quality nutritious food while supporting the base of the business which is growing quality grapes and making honest wine. 

This person knows how to balance vineyard priorities with all the projects and testing we would like to explore and

  • is comfortable maintaining 5 acres of grapes
  • is familiar with organic and biodynamic viticulture
  • will assist with harvest: grape checks, organize pick days and fruit pickup/delivery
  • can drive a tractor safely and confidently in steep terrain.
  • is comfortable doing basic machine maintenance.
  • can help with agri-tourism events, seminars and tours
  • is comfortable working with farm animals like chickens, ducks, pigs, maybe goats and cows
    • Assist in the butchery of animals
    • Assist in compost collection in the village to help feed the animals
  • is proficient in time management and can shuffle priorities on a daily basis
  • is keen to test new techniques and applications for better results
  • can keep great detailed notes on daily activities so we may learn in the years to come
  • can assist with expanding the vegetable and fruit farmstead program

We are offering:

  • Full Time employment, year round.
  • $45K a year
  • 5 weeks total holidays, with 4 weeks over December
  • Foods grown and raised on the property

farmstead retailer

We’re more than just a wine shop.  As our Farmstead Retailer, your main responsibility is providing an exceptional purchasing experience for our guests – both in person and online.  As the primary point of contact for orders, your knowledge of our story, products and our systems combined with your high attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to correctly manage expectations makes you the envy of all the other retailers on the bench.

Our Farmstead Store is open four days a week: Friday through Monday.
We ask of you to:

  • respond to all our guests warmly, courteously and with an element of familiarity, both in person and in writing
  • be comfortable telling the Bella “story” with genuine pride and understand our products well enough to chat with all levels and types of consumers from Jay’s mom to a world class sommelier.
  • run our Farmstead Store, with all that entails.
  • keep our Farmstead Store tidy and prepared for the days events (e.g. have inventory stocked, this will include labelling products)
  • assist with putting online orders together to be shipped; as well as coordinating shipping for in person guests who require this option
  • be very tech savvy in order to be able to operate our POS (Square), create shipping labels and manifests (ATS or Canada Post), respond to online requests and calendar management
  • be exceptionally organized – there are a lot of moving pieces to order processing
  • have your Serving It Right certificate and a general understanding of service excellence as it applies to the food and beverage industry
  • be able to lift 40lb boxes in succession (e.g. to pack and unpack skids)
  • have a general understanding of our region and a desire to make our community a better place to be and live.
  • be handy in the garden, or keen to learn.
  • Can drive a fork lift?  You’re my hero.

We are offering:

  • Temporary employment Friday – Monday from early April to early October (approx. 24-30 hours/week).  
  • Should Farmstead Store sales exceed expectation this season, this role could become a year round position.
  • $18-$20 hour depending on experience

concierge

As our Concierge, your main responsibility is assisting our guests achieve the best experience a tour or event has to offer.  As the first point of contact at our homestead, you curate the tone from set up and site preparation, managing reservations, through welcoming guests to their pre-booked tour/event, including review of Covid protocols, and being available for questions, able to address guest concerns, make suggestions for activities in our community, and generally reflect our passion for what happens onsite at the homestead. 

This is a three day a week position:  Friday, Saturday and Sunday.   Tours occur on Saturday’s and Sunday’s and Friday’s are for preparing for the weekend, helping with agri-tourism events (hands on activities with guests) and working in our gardens.

We ask of you to:

  • greet all our guests warmly and with a smile
  • be comfortable telling the Bella “story” with genuine pride
  • be familiar with all activities going on at the homestead for any given season
  • keep our guests informed, comfortable and feeling safe, including our onsite health protocols, and have the confidence to deal with concerns
  • be tidy, prepared (e.g. have all your prep and supplies ready for the day) and organized
  • have a general understanding of our region and a desire to make our community a better place to be and live.
  • have your Serving It Right certificate and a general understanding of service excellence as it applies to the food and beverage industry
  • be somewhat tech savvy to be able to manage online bookings, POS, and calendar management
  • be able to lift 40lb boxes into our guests vehicles if required
  • not be afraid of doing the dishes (there is a LOT of crystal stemware here)
  • assist our Farmstead Retailer
  • be handy in the garden, or keen to learn.
  • Can drive a tractor?  You’re my hero.

We are offering:

  • Temporary employment Friday, Saturday, Sunday from mid-May to mid-August (approx. 15-20 hours/week)
  • $16-$18 hour depending on experience
  • Foods grown and raised on the property
  • Wine allowance
